Update: Jennifer Lawrence, MockingJay director Francis Lawrence, author Suzanne Collins, and producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik released a statement saying:

“Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family.”

Lionsgate released a statement saying:

”Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send  our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”

For people asking about Hoffman's future in the MockingJay movies the studio said that he pretty much wrapped Part 1 but the director will have to rework Part 2 because he still had 7 days of filming left.

It is being reported that it looks like it was a drug overdose and he was found with a needle in his arm. In May 2013 he checked himself into rehab to battle his addiction to pills/heroin.

He was 46 years old.

Phillip has been in a ton of movies including The Big Lebowski, Moneyball, Mission Impossible 3, Capote, Almost Famous, Charlie Wilson's War and most recently has  played Plutarch in the Hunger Games movies.
