Have you ever seen photos of Kate Middleton at an event and wondered why she was still wearing her coat?
To be honest, it's never even crossed my mind. But then I heard about the reason why she never takes her coat off and it's really interesting... and the reason goes back a LONG time.
Kate has been traveling through Norway and Sweden recently at events, showing off her buttoned-up chic coats. And according to Harper's Bazaar, it's against royal protocol for her to take the coats off in public.
“Here’s something you might not have noticed... When Kate turns up to an event wearing a coat (or a coat-dress, as she so often does), she won’t ever take it off while she's there. Even though she is most definitely wearing a chic dress underneath, taking off a coat is apparently an unladylike action and probably disrupts her outfit choice.”
So, Kate might be heating up inside that coat, but she won't take it off! Because of this long-standing rule.
It kind of makes me feel badly for Kate, but apparently there are other royal rules like this one, including how Queen Elizabeth uses her purse as a signal.
According to the Telegraph: “If the Queen places her handbag on the table at dinner, it signals that she wants the event to end in the next five minutes... If she puts her bag on the floor, it shows she’s not enjoying the conversation and wants to be rescued by her lady-in-waiting.”
I mean, makes sense! So there you have it.
