A nurses aid in Florida betrayed the trust of her bedridden patient, stealing jewelry from her nightstand and selling it at two local pawn shops. According to ABC Action News, Lauren Marie Dito is accused of taking a pair of 14K yellow gold diamond earrings, and a platinum ring with two diamonds which had a combined value of just under $20,000.
The victim's husband noticed the jewelry was missing and alerted police. He said a team of five nurses from Able Palms Home & Health Care Services would visit their home on a regular basis and that Dito was the newest aid to come to their home to care for his sick wife.
Police say they discovered that Dito sold the earrings at a pawn shop in St. Petersburgh and then eight days later sold the ring at a shop in the town of Largo. Dito did not get a good deal on the jewelry though. The earrings were valued $1,35, but she only got $200 for the pair. The ring had a value of $17,750, and she sold it for just $400.
Dito was arrested and charged with dealing in stolen property. She is free after posting a $10,000 bond.
