Your odds of getting stuck by lightning twice in your lifetime are about 1 in 9 million. Your odds of winning last years' $700mil Powerball jackpot were about 1 in 292 million. So it's safe to say you'll probably get struck by lightning a bunch of times before ever hitting the Powerball.
Charles Dudley, of Connecticut, knew the odds when he bought a Powerball ticket from a gas station in May. That's why he folded it up and put it in his wallet and forgot about it.
With less than a month before the prize expired (23 days to be exact), the guy cleaned out his wallet and found the lotto stub pressed between two useless receipts.
After checking the numbers on the website over and over (as if expecting them to change like his mind was playing tricks), Dudley realized he had a match. All five numbers (no Powerball though).
Moral of the story? If you're a pack rat, check your pile of garbage every now and again.
