2020 has been a year of a lot of adapted change. A lot of events have been cancelled, postponed to 2021 or have gone virtual. Rather than cancel this year's annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, the event will be going virtual!
According to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, "(Macy's) is reinventing the event for this moment in history. And you will be able to feel the spirit and the joy of that day on television, online — not a live parade, but something that will really give us that warmth and that great feeling we have on Thanksgiving Day."
If you're wondering how this is all going down, Macy's in a statement explained that the event will be staged over 2 days and the number of participants will be scaled down by 75% to keep everyone socially distanced and safe.
The giant balloons will be there this year but without the usual 80-100 handlers. Instead employing "an innovative, specially rigged anchor vehicle framework of five specialty vehicles tested and approved by" New York City police and transportation officials, according to Macy's.
