One Wisconsin high-schooler is thanking his lucky stars for a friend who stepped up to give him the Heimlich maneuver after he began choking on his food.
Freshman Ian Brown performed the Heimlich maneuver on classmate Will Olsen, who was choking on food in the cafeteria at Central High School in La Crosse, USA Today reported.
Cameras caught the incident Wednesday, when Olsen began coughing and holding his stomach. While one student jumped up and walked away from the table, others continued eating because they thought Olsen was kidding around.
Brown noticed the color change in Olsen's face and neck, which indicated that he was in distress, the police department said in a news release.
