40,00 runners will lace up thisSunday and take to the city streets of Pittsburgh for the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. You'll find me in the fray, struggling to keep pace. Here are some details for the weekend, including road closures, etc...
The marathon course has changed this year. The downtown start and finish lines will remain the same, but due to construction projects and a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game, The Roberto Clemente, Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson bridges won't be available to runners this year.
This year's route will now go around Allegheny Commons toward PNC Park and onto General Robinson Street, through North Shore Drive to Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And the road closures are as follows...
Certain runners can qualify for next year's Boston Marathon, depending on their age groups and finish times! The marathon Expo is currently happening today through tomorrow (closing at 6pm) for all marathon weekend activities!
