Fremont Police Officer Seen Pulling Driver From Burning Vehicle

A police officer in Fremont, California is being praised for his lifesaving actions after he rescued a driver from a burning car that had turned on its side.

According to a Facebook post from the Fremont Police Department, officers responded to reports of a fiery crash that left the driver trapped inside the vehicle, which was on its side and impaled by a tree. In dramatic video taken of the incident, Officer Jason Trzewieczynski can be seen making his way to the mangled SUV that was on fire, and tossing items out of the back of the vehicle to help make room for him to drag the driver to safety and away from the burning wreck.

"He shouldn't have survived," Beth Koenig, who took the video told ABC 7. "He did, and he walked away, and it's because of that officer."

"OK, we've got to get away from this car, sit up, we've got to get away from this car, all right?" the officer can be heard saying in the video. He pulls the driver to his feet to move him further away from the fire.

"On Saturday night, officers investigated a single vehicle collision with one person trapped inside the car," the Fremont Police Department, located in the Bay Area. "We are proud of Officer Trzewieczynski for the quick lifesaving measures he took to safely get the driver out of the vehicle before it fully engulfed in flames. He wanted everyone to know that any one of his teammates would have done the same."

Police added that the 28-year-old driver seen in the footage was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation and whether alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

The driver was not arrested.
