Pittsburgh Penguins co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle have personally donated $100,000 each to assist Pittsburgh institutions battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint $200,000 donation will be split equally between Highmark Health and UPMC for specific programs related to the health crisis.

The Highmark Health donation will go toward a new Mobile COVID-19 Testing Unit, which will enable medical professionals to reach more communities and meet the growing demand for testing. It will focus on under-served populations and communities such as Hazelwood, Duquesne, Clairton and the Hill District.

The UPMC donation will benefit the UPMC Childrenโ€™s Hospital Helpers Fund, providing fast and flexible support to families and caregivers who are impacted by COVID-19.
