HS Coach Cancels Workouts, Urges Players To Help Neighbors Shovel Sidewalks

A local Allegheny County high school football coach is urging his players to help their community amid inclement weather.

Penn Hills coach Dr. Jon LeDonne shared a tweet announcing the cancellation of football workouts on Monday (February 1) morning due to inclement weather and told his players to help their neighbors shovel snow.

"Lifting is canceled today due to inclement weather. Get out and shovel a neighbor's sidewalk/driveway. @PH_Athletics @phqbclub," LeDonne tweeted.

The Pittsburgh area was blanketed by heavy snow Monday, leading to schools canceling classes and extracurricular activities, such as football workouts, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

LeDonne took the day off as an opportunity for his players to help out their local community.

LeDonne joined the Penn Hills High School football program in 2017 and led the Indians to a 16-0 record and PIAA 5A State championship during his second season as head coach.

LeDonne, who has a PhD in engineering from Carnegie Mellon, graduated as the valedictorian of Aliquippa High School and had previously worked at several area high schools including Keystone Oaks, Steel Valley, Gateway and Shaler Area before assuming the head coaching role at Penn Hills in 2017.

Penn Hills finished the 2020 season with a 4-4 (2-2) overall record, according to PAFootballNews.com.
