10 Reasons I was wrong about TikTok.

When I first heard of TikTok it was actually still called "Musically". I would see adds for it on facebook and it just looked like highschoolers erratically lip syncing music ...and I was like...

I'm a 24 year old adult woman, I may of loved Vine, but this isn't for me...so I thought. Time goes by and I start seeing my friends posting videos from TikTok and after a solid recommendation from one of my closest friends. I gave it a whirl. TikTok is anything from dogs watching movies to urban survival tips, to hot grandpas, to advice on how to deal with a narcissist. So here I am, a TikTok convert. Here are 10 reasons why I love TikTok.

1. This app is full of positive/motivational stories from real people.

I notice people on TikTok are less likely to filter out the real problems they are faced with and in fact, embrace their adversity. This inspires some motivational stories. Instead of the perfect instagram model doing perfect crunches on a balcony of fancy tropical resort getting 2 million views, it's a normal dude who is sharing his weightloss journey by doing cardio in his backyard. https://vm.tiktok.com/bKBP2E/

Another TikTok account I love following is @hunterwoodhall - He's an amazing athlete that's been missing his legs since he was a child. He tells stories of his childhood, being bullied, and eventually pushing past all that to become a famous athlete. https://vm.tiktok.com/bKSS48/

2. It allows normal everyday people to go viral

You don't need money, or looks, or ever a weird shtick to get a lot of views on TikTok. You just have to have something to say that people want or need to hear at the moment. This video is seriously so simple, but for some reason I love it and i'm not the only one. This video has more than 3 million views. https://vm.tiktok.com/bKd1kB/

3. You get a look into other people's lives/careers

I noticed a lot of workplaces have Tik Toks. Nothing too fancy, think school bus drivers, dentist offices, teachers, etc. One of my favorites are these girls who work at a Subway and they make "The Office" inspired tiktoks as if the office took place at a Subway sandwich shop, and it's hilarious. https://vm.tiktok.com/bKSQkk/

Or there's this art teacher who is just EXXXTRRRA in the best way possible. Her outfits are THE BEST https://vm.tiktok.com/bKefYQ/

Some places get really wild with it. Like this NSFW doctor's office skit https://vm.tiktok.com/bKB3uP/

Or the Washington's rendition of how writers "pitch a story" https://vm.tiktok.com/bKeUyN/

4. This one may just be me, but there is a SURPLUS of cat videos

Dare I say, TikTok may just have more cat videos than dog videos for ONCE! Any pet stores I've been to has like 12 ailes dedicated to the beloved canine but maybe 2 ailes to the forgotten feline. Facebook is always ROTFLing over dogs - Reddit is calling them Puppers - Instagram calls them Good Boys - but where's the love for the kitties? As a mom of two cats I'm happy to announce: Tik Tok is spreading the cat love!

This guy just raps about cats. This one features his cat, 'DJ Ravioli' https://vm.tiktok.com/bKeo1j/

5. There are some extremely talented artists on TikTok, dang

I'm continually amazed by the talent I see on Tik Tok. From furniture restoration, to music production, to sowing your own dress, to upcycling ugly Goodwill finds - Just Incredible! I love seeing people with normal jobs going home at night and creating exceptional art on the side. Like this guy who added his own spin on The Weeknd's son 'Heartless'. https://vm.tiktok.com/bTE2Av/

Or this painter who makes it look SOOO EASY! https://vm.tiktok.com/bKJ3FW/

Or this sweet baby angel who made an adorable DIY book for her husband https://vm.tiktok.com/bKrrfu/

6. People on Tik Tok have a culture of destigmatizing mental health problems

As someone who struggles with anxiety, I gotta say these tik toks poking fun at the struggle fills me with joy. Who has experienced something like this before? Careful, NSFW: https://vm.tiktok.com/bwKFHt/

7. You get so many great stories from everyday people

Two stories come to mind here. One was about a school bus driver who had a feeling someone was breaking in and sleeping on his bus at night, so he left a note and some food for the guy. They ended up meeting! All of this unfolded on Tik Tok. Here's there meeting! https://vm.tiktok.com/bKnWrv/

Or a former homeless woman's story about how a day of goofing around ended in a really good job! https://vm.tiktok.com/bKxf5A/

8. Nobody takes themselves or the app too seriously

It's just goofy and people aren't afraid to get weird. Even Bob Saget. https://vm.tiktok.com/bKxNe6/

Or this dude who is the BEST at motivational speeches https://vm.tiktok.com/bKmPpH/

9. You can actually get some decent advice

There's a slew of professionals on Tik Tok giving away free advice!

Want better communication skills? https://vm.tiktok.com/bKp8AR/

Wanna fix your posture? https://vm.tiktok.com/bKn2LS/

Wanna learn about raising chickens? https://vm.tiktok.com/bK9afv/

The options are endless!

10. The food recipes are ON LOCK.

I've discovered some AMAZING recipes on tik tok. Not just recipes, but techniques on enhancing everyday food like burgers and mac n cheese. I also discovered the best food accessory that has ruined regular salt for me forever. I'm literally trying to figure out a way to bring this in my suitcase to vacation it's so good. Rosemary Salt!! Check it out https://vm.tiktok.com/bKtnaJ/

Or Chick-a-fila chicken imposters! https://vm.tiktok.com/bKWVvj/

What about the FLUFFIEST pancakes? https://vm.tiktok.com/bKHGrY/

I honestly have 10 more reasons why I love TikTok now, but I digress. Even if you're a grown-ass adult, I recommend taking a gander. It's a window into someone else's world....and high-key hilarious.
