I don't know about you, but growing up the youngest at home meant you were last on the totem pole to receive tv remote rights. That meant I was subject to whatever my parents or older brother were watching. My mom's jams were The Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, Snapped (my 11-year-old self always wondered if I should warn dad to watch his back), Unsolved Mysteries, Til Debt Do Us Part, House Hunters, and of course my personal favorite Judge Judy.
My young self always looked up to this powerful, no BS, women in total control of the court. To this day, her values and Judy-isms pop up from time to time in everyday life. A couple of my favorites:
"Where did you think you were coming today, the beach?!"
"I'm here because I'm smart, not because I'm young and gorgeous, although I am"
"Baloney!"
"Do I have 'stupid' written over my forehead?"
"There are no new stories, there's just a new face."
If there's anything I learned from Judge Judy it's to stop relying on others to give you your self-worth and be your own hero. She's a smart, cunning women who worked her way to the top and deserves every minute of it. And just because this is fun for me, I attached a video of Judge Judy's most savage quips. Hopefully this burns a couple hours of quarantine time for ya. Let's be honest, if Judge Judy ever read this article she says "I don't care" while rolling her eyes.
