Darren Criss Dishes on Epic Remix of Dave Matthews’ 'Crash Into Me'

Our ‘90s-meets-EDM dreams have come true! Darren Criss stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, July 12, and announced he’s joining Steve Aoki at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas this September to perform their recently dropped epic remix of ‘90s Dave Matthews' classic “Crash Into Me.”

The Emmy-winning actor and singer remixed the track with the DJ after sharing his forever love for the iconic ‘90s band.

“Like all the things in my life it starts off as me saying to a friend, ‘You know what would be crazy?’ And then that just kind of gets carried away with itself,” Criss told Seacrest of the new banger’s creation. “… I’m a ‘90s kid and I’ve been in countless ‘90s cover bands and I’ve always said to my friends … ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I took Dave Matthews’ seminal ‘Crash Into Me’ and … turned it into a 3 and a half [minute] banger and the joke all came from the drop in the song," he added. "… I just imagined myself in Vegas with co2 cans … and then when I got to meet Steve, I basically gave that same pitch and he just looked at me completely seriously like, ‘That’s awesome.’ And we recorded it almost immediately.”

Criss and Aoki join the previously announced star-studded lineup including Hootie & the Blowfish, Marshmello, Monsta X, Alicia Keys, Cage The Elephant, Camila Cabello, Chance The Rapper, Def Leppard, French Montana, Halsey, Heart, H.E.R., Miley Cyrus, Mumford & Sons, Tim McGraw, and Zac Brown Band.

“I’ve been going since day one — I’ve been to [almost] every single one,” the Glee alum added of iHeart’s annual music festival. “I was at the very first one so I’ve been dancing my butt off in the crowd for years. I have like a punch card,” he joked. “It’s like I finally got my free smoothie after going to so many festivals.”
