A new study from the University of Colorado at Boulder say the bacteria living in your showerhead has the potential to cause things like tuberculosis and leprosy. YIKES!
The study says that Mycobacterium (the culprit that can ruin your day) is most abundant in places like the showerhead in your bathroom. It also points out that this bacterium is more prevalent in municipal tap water than in well water. Biofilm, as it's called, may contain certain types of bacterium that can cause lung disease.
It's important to note that there are good and bad types of bacteria, and that these types usually even each other out so there's not an overabundance of one or the other.
While you shouldn't live in fear of your shower, you should probably clean it once in a while (you filthy animal!). You can read the details of the study HERE.
