Mindy Kaling Just Gave The Best Advice For Having Confidence In Yourself

Mindy Kaling is showing her mom-side a LOT lately, and it suits her well.

Her latest mom-move comes from some veryyyyy real, very realistic advice she gave on how to boost your confidence.

On a panel at the Glamour Women of the Year Summit, Mindy admitted that she thinks the message we currently send to young women of simply "be confident" is really confusing.

And she's got a point! We act that confidence is simple to come by, even though we all know it isn't. I still struggle with my confidence after years and years of working on it! But especially after welcoming twins just 6 months ago.

At the event, Mindy explained, "We tell young women...to be confident, be confident, and to just grasp it out of thin air, and I think that's confusing."

What she's saying is, confidence isn't something that just appears out of no where one day. For Mindy, her confidence has come from putting in a lot of hard work to achieve her goals, and being proud of that work.

Talking to NBC's Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, she further explained:

"Because for me I've never had any [innate] confidence..."I've just done the leg work. It often meant that I never came to anything unprepared."

She then went on to explain that for her the "leg work" looked like preparing, to the point of almost over-preparing for events, meetings, and different points of her career so that she "literally couldn't not be confident."

Mindy has also previously talked about how exercise helps with her confidence in a way that isn't about what her body looks like. She told Shape: "working out is a way for me to have mental strength."

That is definitely something I can relate to! Confidence is a lot of finding out what makes YOU feel good, and making sure to include those things into your every day life.

It's so important we teach the younger generation of women how to find their confidence, and I love Mindy for bringing the realistic way to find your confidence to light!
