Christmas Tree Prices Higher Than In Years Past Due To National Shortage

If you're getting ready to hit the Christmas Tree lot after Thanksgiving next week, don't be alarmed if the tree costs more than you ever remember... because, not to alarm you, but there's a Christmas tree shortage going on. And it's definitely going to impact all of our holiday decorating plans.

Here's what we know is going on:

Farmers in major tree-growing states like Oregon, Michigan, North Carolina and Missouri have said things like hot weather, the 2008 recession and too much rain as factors in fewer trees being produced this year. I know it seems crazy that things from 11 years ago can affect the trees this year but... it takes a long time to grow a tree! So in reality, it makes sense.

The less trees that are available means the more the trees we DO have access to may cost, so just beware when you go to make that purchase.

However, this doesn't mean you WON'T be able to find a tree. You just may have a lesser selection than years prior.

Tim O'Connor, the executive director of the National Christmas Tree Association, told TODAY that "there is not a single community in the country that ever ran out of Christmas trees." So that's a positive! You might have to get a shorter tree or a thinner tree than you were hoping, but you will definitely be finding a tree and taking it home with you!

For reference: 32.8 million trees were sold last year, which was 5 million more than in 2017, and the average price nationally only went up about $3 per tree, according to O'Connor.

I loooove decorating so much, we usually have two trees in the house. But the kid's playroom is now where we used to put our second tree, so I'm not sure if we will have a second this year.

How many trees do you have at home? How do you decorate them? I want to see pics of your trees!
