Inside Last Night's History-Making Oscars

93rd Annual Academy Awards - Backstage

It's crazy to look back at this time last year when we were FRESH into the pandemic and all wondering if an award show like the Oscars would ever be possible again. If you remember last year’s Oscars were in February... weeks before the shutdown. We had no idea at that time what the next year would look like. But obviously, SO happy we got a show last night!

And this year’s Oscar’s did not disappoint. Here is the breakdown of the numbers:

The show apparently cost more than $40 million to produce.

About 170 people attended...

And everyone had to take three COVID-19 tests before the awards and get their temperature checked the day of the event.

A 30-second commercial during the Oscars last night costs $2 million - which is 64% less than the cost of a Super Bowl commercial (and still VERY expensive!!)

As for the Oscars gift bag... that contained roughly $225,000 worth of goodies. The bag indluded:

An all-inclusive vacation in a boutique hotel off the coast of Sweden (whaaaat!!!)

A $250 meditationheadband

A plastic surgery consultation

A vape cartridge finished with 24-karat gold

And a $360 acupuncture device

Not too shabby for a pandemic gift bag am I right?!

In terms of making history: this year, 32% of the nominees are women! This is the highest percentage of female nominees in Oscars history. 70 women received a total of 76 nominations.

AND, for the first time ever, two women were nominated for best director.

Emerald Fennell who directed "Promising Young Woman" was nominated alongside Chloe Zhao for "Nomadland."

Chloe ended up winning the Oscar last night and became only the second woman everKathryn Bigelow won in 2010 for "The Hurt Locker."

Chloe was also the first Asian woman to win the Oscar for best director!

Such an exciting night, and if you haven't seen many of the movies (because so many of us haven't!) hopefully soon we will be able to do so again! I look forward to seeing so many of the nominated films.

What was your favorite moment from the Oscars last night? Yap with me below!
