Well, Disney fans, there is some great news for you starting tomorrow!! When Disneyland and Disney California Adventure closed in March 2020 when the pandemic hit, both the long-standing FastPass and MaxPass options were suspended too... And as the parks reopened over the last several months, those passes had not returned.
NOW, Disney’s replacement for its iconic FastPass program is finally set to launch at both parks tomorrow.
The debut of Genie, Genie+ and “Lightning Lane” will be available at parks tomorrow. Lightning Lane is a new secondary lane that will allow guests to bypass the traditional standby line.
If you're a little confused - because I totally was - here’s the breakdown...
- Genie is a free tool that helps guests build a daily itinerary
- Genie+ is $20 per day and is required for guests to use the Lightning Lane on certain attractions.
- Genie+ is similar to MaxPass, a paid service previously offered where you could book FastPass times on your phone. It will also include PhotoPass downloads.
- However, unlike MaxPass, Genie+ will only let you redeem one Lightning Lane per experience each day
These changes are likely due to the entire shift at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure with the reservation system and the new "Magic Key" program rather than the traditional annual passes.
And as you may have heard reservations for Disney are sold out for the month of December... so make your plans for January and make sure you utilize the Genie program to help plan out your day!
I'm so excited to plan a day with the kids soon! Aiza and Maxon loooove Disneyland and we haven't been since right before the pandemic hit. It's going to be so fun getting to see them experience the parks as almost 4-year-olds this time around!
